Iphone: The problem with the kitchen sink and the Peter Principle
Posted in Random on November 28th, 2009 by abThis, my dear readers is a telephone.
It has one function – you pick up that funky looking handle on the top and hold it to your ear. Then you grab that doohickey on the side and crank it up. Once completed, you can speak to someone on other end. We refer to this procedure as making a “call”.
Apart from this “call” functionality, this object is nothing more than a paper weight – or something for braining your next burglar. My point, that is perilously close to drowning in my sarcasm, is that the object has one function. It’s a telephone. That’s what it does and even in 1896, it did it pretty well (although Rikstelefon is no longer in business in Sweden).
A few days ago, a friend of mine was complaining that his GPS running application on his Iphone didn’t work perfectly – he wasn’t getting absolutely accurate readings while jogging… (cough) His phone was not giving him accurate GPS readings while jogging? This wasn’t even a complaint about the GPS while calling.
And now for something completely different – Thanksgiving Edition
Posted in Random on November 26th, 2009 by abSometimes, I just want to share. The monotony of always talking about technology, day in, day out, drives me to YouTube and sometimes, once in a rare while, I stumble on something that is … glorious. Here is my Thanksgiving gift to everyone.

Graphic Compositing, 3D Rendering and Interior Decorating with Microsoft Word (or ‘How I finally found a use for the world’s best-selling word processing program’)
Posted in Educational on November 25th, 2009 by msI write this somewhat tongue-in-cheek as I’d never actually recommend doing graphics, let alone complex graphics in Microsoft Word. In fact I’d probably never write an article recommending doing word-processing in Microsoft Word. Yet I found myself in a position recently where I did just that (the former) quite by accident.
Avast ye Iphone users – prepare to not be bored(ed)
Posted in Random on November 23rd, 2009 by adminI admit, I’m a strong proponent of pirate press releases. We’ve made a little upgrade to the Just an Asterisk. From this point forward, Iphone, Ipod Touch and Blackberry touch-screen users will see a new page designed for their diminutive browsers (in a good way).
It’s just another way for us to show you how much we love you. See the glorious pictures below.
Thanks for reading!

Filters make things clean
Posted in Feature, Web on November 21st, 2009 by abI recently converted over from Gmail to Google Apps for my domain and went through the process of transferring my email. During the process, I moved 13930 emails. With such a large data size to test with, it got me to thinking – are there any filters that nearly everyone could use? Emails do not vary as much as you might think. I took some of my favorite filters and checked to see if they worked only for me or if they could be applied to others as well. Here is what I came up with:
